EJI - Freedom Monument Sculpture Park

Since summer 2026, Patt Conservation has held an ongoing contract to provide quarterly conservation maintenance for 48 sculptures and installation artworks at the Equal Justice Initiative’s Freedom Monument Sculpture Park in Montgomery, Alabama.

The park brings together contemporary sculpture and large-scale installations within a landscaped outdoor setting, with works in bronze, steel, painted metal, stone, mixed media, and other materials. The collection is integrated into a site devoted to public education, remembrance, and reflection on the history of enslavement and its enduring legacy in the United States.

Our quarterly work includes condition assessment, cleaning, protective maintenance, localized treatment as needed, and photographic documentation. This regular care helps address weathering, biological growth, corrosion, surface soiling, and other conditions associated with long-term outdoor exposure while supporting the preservation and presentation of the collection.
