Bronze Fountain Conservation
Private Client, 2026
Patt Conservation performed the first maintenance treatment of an outdoor bronze fountain sculpture in Santa Ana, California. The work focused on reducing accumulated mineral deposits and active green corrosion while preserving the existing patina and improving the overall appearance of the bronze.
Treatment included a combination of mechanical and chemical cleaning methods, followed by washing with a pH-neutral detergent and distilled water. The bronze was then carefully dried and gently heated before receiving multiple thin applications of protective wax. Where needed, pigmented wax was used selectively to visually integrate areas of discoloration and surface disruption.
The completed treatment improved the visual continuity of the sculpture while establishing a protective surface coating to support its continued exposure in an outdoor fountain environment.
