Public Art Survey

In 2023 we completed a survey of 34 public artworks owned by the City of Carlsbad for its "Art in Public Places" program. The survey culminated in a 130 page report detailing the currant condition of each artwork, conservation priorities, recommendations for immediate action and ongoing maintenance, and an environmental risk assessment. The survey was carried out by two conservators and a technician who assessed each artwork in person using a standardized methodology. The assessment process included a visual examination and occasionally a physical examination to test security, materials, and to establish the presence of a coating such as wax or lacquer. Each artwork was photographed with “overall” images and details of any incidents of damage or areas of note.
